ORGANIZATION SPOTLIGHT
Mid Atlantic Disaster Recovery Association, Inc.
It sure has been a hot summer, lightning storms abound, terrorists have
struck Great Britain. Never has Business Continuity been more important.
A fact that is driven home with each terrorist attack and approaching
hurricane. In the 1st meeting of 2005, MADRA fabricated a mock organization
called Centurion Investments, and discussed the need for management awareness
and business impact analysis. At the 2nd meeting, three teams were formed
and a tabletop Business Impact Analysis (BIA) of Centurion was conducted
to identify the risks. A BIA document will be created from the notes of
that meeting, and posted on the website just prior to the next meeting,
as will a draft of a BC plan. The 3rd meeting will take up where they
left off in the BCP lifecycle, with a review of what has occurred to date,
the BIA and the draft plan. This will be followed by a working session
to flesh out the plan and look at ways to test the plan. Please join them
at MADRA's 48th quarterly meeting, August 18, at the Maryland Fire and
Rescue Institute Training Academy, 4500 Paint Branch Parkway, College
Park MD 20743 to continue the saga. Directions are on the www.madra.org
website. The 4th meeting will be held on November 3rd, and will be an
all day session starting with what was developed during the prior sessions
and an exercise plan template. The rest of the day will be used to develop
a test plan and to conduct a tabletop exercise of the BCP, with a few
wrinkles from the real world thrown in. The day will culminate with a
lessons learned session critiquing the activities of the day and the entire
4 sessions of the BCP lifecycle series.
