Irish IT Managers Worried About Security

Almost half of Irish IT managers have confessed to losing sleep over their companies’ security, as well as worrying over their own abilities to support business priorities, a new survey has found.

According to an article by John Kennedy on the Silicon Republic website, the survey by Computer Associates (CA) found that 42 percent of managers indicated they were losing sleep by worrying about IT security. When asked about their biggest security concerns, 39 percent said virus attacks were their number one concern, followed by spam and the impact of new technologies.

Frank Kennedy, Ireland country manager at CA, told Kennedy that:"My interpretation of these results would be that business continuity is the biggest concern for IT managers. Security poses a threat to business continuity, which is probably why the two go hand in hand, but it is a concern in so far as it could prevent them from doing their job of delivering a service to the business."

The survey also found that Irish IT managers were also concerned about accountability and compliance. Forty-two percent of respondents said they use service level agreements to measure the performance of the IT department. What’s more, 27 percent of respondents said compliance was a"very important" issue.
