Job Satisfaction Low at Homeland Security A new survey of government employees has found that workers at the Department of Homeland Security are among some of the most dissatisfied employees who work for the feds. In an article on the FederalTimes.com website, writer Stephen Losey says DHS employees now join those at the Social Security Administration, Small Business Administration, Education Department and Transportation Department as some of the most disgruntled government employees. The information came from a recent federal employee satisfaction survey. Losey says DHS employees said consistently they were less satisfied than other government employees when asked how they liked their jobs, how satisfied they are with their pay, and how they rated their bosses and leaders. In some cases, he says, they were less satisfied by margins of 50 percent. The survey also found that agencies that suffered lower-than-normal employee satisfaction in 2002 surveys continue to rank low in morale. "Some say dissatisfaction at Homeland Security is to be expected, given lingering uncertainty over the department's personnel system, leadership changes, and the turmoil that lingers from the largest government reorganization in almost six decades," Losey says.
