IT Security More Important For Some Companies
Than Others A story in CIO Today magazine reminds readers that for IT managers in these vital sectors, the stakes in the race to secure business IT infrastructure and data have never been higher. The article, entitled "CIOs Gear Up for Changing Security Climate" gathers the insight of corporate IT managers in a range of economically critical industries about the challenges they face in making sure cyber attackers never gain the upper hand. "Although viruses and other security threats have been around for years, CIOs agree that security threats have become more insidious, more potentially damaging, and more difficult to guard against," writes the author, Lisa Valentine of Enterprise Security Today. "For CIOs in companies that are charged with public safety -- airlines, utilities, engineering infrastructures, transportation -- the horrific events of 9/11 have had a large impact on the resources these organizations devote to security and the type of security they need to employ." The story talks to CIOs in companies like FedEx, DTE Energy, AFLAC and Lockheed-Martin, and seeks to show readers why for so many of these CIOs, data security takes on an air of even greater importance than it does for their counterparts in other enterprises.
