Cooperation Key to Winning War Against Cybercrime

Will we ever be able to win our war against hackers, cyber criminals and other thieves out to target our IT vulnerabilities? Some IT security experts say it’s possible, as long as we band together and cooperate.

According to an article on the Top Tech News website, financial gain is still a major motive for today’s cyber criminals. Now attackers are using increasingly sophisticated methods to ensure the success of their crimes.

Patrik Runald, security response manager of F-Secure Security Labs, told the publication that winning the war against these cyber crooks is possible, but it’s going to take all the various parties working together to make it happen.

“Catching the bad guys is far from easy,” he told the publication. “The solution is cooperation – cooperation between security vendors such as ourselves, CERTs (Computer Emergency Response Teams) around the world, ISPs (Internet service providers), law enforcement agencies and governments. By having information flow between these parties, we’ll eventually be able to track them down, but without cooperation we will fail.”

Runald also said that the lack of applicable laws available to prosecute cyber criminals is another hindrance to fighting cybercrime.
