According to an article on the Health Data Management website, the survey also revealed that 45 percent of respondents don’t know how to measure the effectiveness of their information security spending, but 46 percent say their organizations have had increased information security spending over the past year. “The CIO respondents also offered details about their organization’s security issues,” the article says. “For example, 44 percent said their organization isn't fully compliant with the HIPAA security rules. An additional 39 percent said their organization had one or more negative information security-related event over the past year.” What’s more, 62 percent say their organization isn’t encrypting information in databases; 61 percent aren’t maintaining an accurate inventory of data kept by users; and 26 percent don’t encrypt data during transmission.
