Beware the "Seven Deadly Sins" of Data Backup and Recovery

Large corporations are able to invest significant resources to ensure their data can survive and recover from any disaster. But if your small business doesn't have those kinds of resources, is there any way you can improve your own backup and recovery practices?

There is a way to improve your plans, says Bob Cramer, CEO of LiveVault Corp. In the latest issue of Enterprise Networks & Servers, Cramer says he's seen small businesses commit "seven deadly sins" in their backup and recovery practices and offers his advice on how to turn these sinners into saints.

Cramer says these "sins" include thinking you don't have enough data to warrant a full backup and recovery system, not including backup and recovery in your budget, not having time for it, thinking tape is good enough, not outsourcing, not testing or thinking it won't happen to you.

To combat the problems, Cramer recommends small businesses consider backup and recovery from a managed service provider. These companies, he says, are experts in backup and recovery and can do it better than you can do it yourself.
