New Orleans Employers See Operations in New Light

Businesses affected by Hurricane Katrina have been working steadily over the past year to resume operations. But a new report suggests nothing is the same as it was before, particularly with the city’s drastic population shift. Will the workforce ever be the same?

In an article on the Workforce Management website, Bridget Mintz Testa says many employers in the area “struggled with common post-hurricane issues for their workers. They had to find emergency and temporary housing, provide financial assistance, extend health insurance and other benefits beyond the usual sign-up dates, relocate personnel and put people back to work,” she writes.

Throughout the article, Mintz Testa profiles organizations in the city that are learning the lessons of Katrina and developing plans for the future, including Sodexho, State Farm, Entergy and Tulane University.
