Government Officials Declare Cyber Storm a Success US government officials and representatives from the private sector have declared last week’s Operation Cyber Storm, an exercise designed to improve cybersecurity, a great success. According to an article by Paul F. Roberts on the eWeek website, both government officials and private sector representatives announced the exercise’s success late last week after the war game wrapped up. As reported in the February 8 issue of the Continuity e-GUIDE, the Cyber Storm exercise ran last week and included Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. The operation was known to be the government’s first full-scale exercise to test federal, state and local response to a cyber-attack. It improved coordination between the public and private sectors and government agencies, Roberts says. “Experts who attended the exercise said Cyber Storm did a good job of mimicking a realistic attack,” Roberts says, “but that the U.S. government needs to do more to prepare for the real thing.” The scenario was designed to test officials on both a combined physical and Internet-based attack. “It involved a series of targeted Internet attacks on strategic public and private sector entities,” Roberts says.
