Red Cross Resources for Continuity and Preparedness

Almost half (40 percent) of small businesses do not reopen after they are disrupted by a major disaster like a fire, tornado or serious earthquake. A free online resource from the Red Cross has been released to help businesses evaluate their level of preparedness and their readiness to resume operations following a disaster. The document, which can be downloaded in PDF format, describes many of the aspects of emergency preparedness many businesses fail to address when formulating their own plans.

Also available from the same site are Dept. of Homeland Security guidelines for small business emergency preparedness. While much of the information represents a basic primer on emergency preparedness, it's particularly useful for smaller organizations and might make for a useful client resource for BC/DR consultants or other professionals.
