Continuous Access to Information Is Key to BC, Survey Finds A new survey of executives has found that most believe their company shouldn’t even have to recover from a business disruption, but would rather have continuous access to information. In an article on the IT World Canada website, writer Rosie Lombardi says the survey by SunGard Availability Services asked senior business executives – not IT managers – from Fortune 1000 companies their opinions on their company’s ability to access critical information after a disaster. Lombardi says the survey found that 80 percent of respondents said it was more important to their organizations to have an information infrastructure that was always available rather than being able to recover from a business disruption. “What this reveals is that business users don’t want to be in a position where they have to recover from an outage to begin with,” she says. About two-thirds of respondents gave their companies a B grade when it came to their organization’s ability to access critical information after a disaster, but 61 per cent said their company experienced an unplanned disruption of technology services in the past year. Lombardi also points out that, as far as some organizations are concerned, there is little difference between a disaster – like a hurricane or a terrorist attack – and an unplanned disruption, as both will affect the business negatively.
