Jeff is an Atlanta-based Senior Manager in KPMG's Risk Advisory Services (RAS) practice. He is the Business Continuity Management Champion for the Southeast Region, which includes the Caribbean. Jeff brings over fifteen years experience, split evenly between industry and consulting, in developing and evaluating many aspects of enterprise risk management, including Business Continuity, Crisis Management, Disaster Recovery, E-Business Resilience, Data Management and Vital Records Management. He has supported clients in the Banking/Brokerage, Collections, Energy, Forestry, Gaming, Healthcare, Information Services, Insurance, Manufacturing, Professional Services, Publishing, Real Estate, Retail, Telecommunications and Transportation industries, as well as local, state, federal and international government agencies.

Representative Accomplishments

  • Conducted Business Impact Analyses and Risk Assessments for clients in the Collections, Energy, Financial Services, Gaming, Government, Insurance, Pharmaceutical, Professional Services and Real Estate industries;
  • Aided clients in the Collections, Energy, Financial Services, Forestry, Gaming, Government, Insurance, Professional Service, Real Estate and Transportation industries with Recovery Strategy design and selection, including comparison of internal, external, and combined alternatives, design of said chosen capabilities, and derivation of the cost benefit of implementing the chosen solution;
  • Developed Business Continuity, Crisis Management, and Disaster Recovery plans for clients in the Collections, Energy, Financial Services, Government, Healthcare, Insurance, Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical, Professional Services and Publishing industries. Engagements included plan template and resource documentation development, activation procedural development, individual and group interviews, data verification, and receipt of management approval for said plans, which were both process and technical (mainframe, distributed systems, and network) in nature.
  • Assisted clients in the Energy, Financial Services, Government, Healthcare, Manufacturing and Publishing industries exercise their programs, including desktop walkthroughs, system/network recovery tests, and mock-simulated walkthroughs.
  • Reviewed and designed high availability solutions, including data storage management, for operationally resilient business processes in the Energy, Financial Services, Gaming, Government and Healthcare industries.
  • Provided education for U.S.- and internationally-based clients on various topics including Business Continuity, Contingency Planning software, Crisis Management, Disaster Recovery, Organizational Policies/Procedures/Processes, Program Governance, Third-Party Vendors, and Vital Records; and
  • Audited Business Continuity, Crisis Management, and Disaster Recovery plans, internal policies and procedures, and Vital Records programs for the Energy, Financial Services, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, Real Estate and Retail industries, providing an independent viewpoint on plan, policy and process improvements.

Background
Mr. Dato received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Accounting from the College of William and Mary and was a charter recipient of the Master Business Continuity Professional (MBCP) certification from the Disaster Recovery Institute. Prior to joining KPMG, Mr. Dato worked for two super-regional banks, where he developed and implemented their Business Continuity, Crisis Management, and Disaster Recovery programs and expanded their Records Management processes. Mr. Dato has also been employed by a former global hotsite provider and two other "Big 4" accounting firms, where he was responsible for Business Continuity, Crisis Management and Disaster Recovery consulting delivery and practice development on a regional basis.
